I founded Old Soul Artisan in 2014, drawing inspiration from my journey as a lover of dark literature. I can still recall the summer spent in Montana when I was 13 and devoured Anne Rice's Mayfair Witch Trilogy. I can still picture the little guest bedroom and the Cure songs playing on my Walkman as I got lost among the pages. This is when I fell in love with reading.
The magic of scent, memory, and story is what I aim to capture in every candle I create. Each fragrance is inspired by a literary character or theme that resonates on a deep, and often dark and visceral level. It is within this shadow realm that my creativity thrives.
The tale of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde emphasized the duality of man's nature. Good and evil, light and darkness, yin and yang within a single man. For most of us, the transition is not so black and white- but rather in shades of gray. The most intriguing stories are full of dark and mysterious themes with characters so complex they blur the line between hero and villain. Their tangled personalities reflect the gray within us all.
Old Soul Artisan is more than a candle company. These products, quite literally, have stories behind them. They are meant to be reading companions and conversation starters.

From scent development and hand pouring each candle, to packing orders and customer service, it's all handled by me and the many hats I wear as a one-woman show. Due to my amazing customers, I've built a career doing what I love.
This project began in 2014 after finishing graduate school. My studies and global travels have shaped my appreciation for cultural traditions and storytelling. My company has allowed me to blend my love for literature and folklore with my passion for scent development. My fragrances are an extension of my love for dark, complex stories and the emotions they evoke.
