Fragrance notes: ancient book and secret ritual

“Maple. Maypole. Catch and carry.
Ash and Ember. Elderberry.
Woolen. Woman. Moon at night.
Willow. Window. Candlelight.
Fallow farrow. Ash and oak.
Bide and borrow. Chimney smoke.
Barrel. Barley. Stone and stave.
Wind and water. Misbehave.”
- Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicles)

Magical incantations have existed since the beginning of time and have been recorded in stone, blood, and ink since humankind first created written language. These mystical manuscripts contain the power to manipulate the earth's elements and to summon the supernatural. From H.P. Lovecraft's tale of the evil Necronomicon, to textbooks of magic called grimoires that contain instructions on how to use talismans and create potions with herbs, to field guides on constructing protection wards against fantastical creatures, the array of spell books is vast.

This fragrance is inspired by the enchantment of a secret book of spells, the one that you dream of stumbling upon one day in a neglected basement of an old library. It has a soft well-worn leather binding and fragile yellowing pages. It smells earthy like black tea, slightly musty like old paper, and contains a deep woody richness of long forgotten knowledge. A scent like no other. Infused with natural essential oils, this fragrance captures the aroma of ancient books and secret rituals.

It's like a warm library in a glass jar

Such a wonderful scent. Part magic part mystery 100% worth it!

Obsessed

Book of Spells is one of my all-time favorite candle scents. I'm a bit obsessed with it. I can't quite figure out what the scent combination is. Smells a bit like chocolate, with an underlayer of something floral or fruity. Perhaps a little bit of leather mixed in. I don't know exactly, but I know I just love it! Harmony is a fragrance master. She also provides outstanding customer service. I'm used to waiting up to a month for candles from other small-batch companies, but my first order with Old Soul came within a few days. Packed beautifully and with some extra goodies, which was such a wonderful surprise! Thanks so much!

Warm and Inviting

I have to say this fragrance has definitely put a "spell" on me. It's a warm and comforting cloak of fragrance for you space. There is a distinct rich dark chocolate note then it mixes with other warm notes of mystery. Really fantastic and one the best scents to create a comforting magical atmosphere. It's a favorite!

Vexing

This is one of the most interesting candles I’ve ever burned. On cold, there is a sharp chocolate scent, but once burning, it transforms. Dusty pages, wood, old leather are all here, but there is something else balanced on the edge that I cannot place. This is a mages library, this is Flemeth’s grimoire, these are books that hold ancient power. Not a typical “library” scent, there are many more layers here. It transports you somewhere old, archaic, magical. Excellent throw on this as well, it scented my entire living area perfectly. Magnificent.

Library of Magic

When I burn this candle I envision walking into a dimension with a Library that may or may not be there tomorrow. Perhaps with a small ritual or spell, it can be persuaded to stay a little while longer.
