For centuries, the broom has carried a curious place in folklore and magical tradition. The besom, a traditional broom made from a bundle of twigs or herbs tied to a handle, became closely associated with witches and household magic. Sweeping could symbolize more than cleaning a room, it could represent clearing away negativity, protecting a home, or preparing a space for ritual.

The hearth was equally important in traditional households, serving as a place of warmth, cooking, gathering, and domestic ritual. Together, the hearth and the besom evoke the quieter side of folk magic where spells woven into ordinary household tasks, herbs hanging to dry, and simple objects are imbued with meaning. Hearthspell celebrates that intimate kind of magic and the belief that even the most ordinary corners of home can hold a little enchantment.
